And so it begins...

So, despite my friends' recent tribulations with blog stalking, I have given in to the fad and started writing my thoughts for all to see. Well, really, since I wasn't planning on telling anyone about the blog, it is really just for me. If anyone sees it, well, feel free to follow my existence - as mundane as it can be.

I have been thinking of starting this because I know I need someone to help me with domestic activities. My mother taught me a lot of stuff growing up, but honestly, the first time I boiled corn, I had to call her to find out how. Sad, but true. I also called when I wanted to learn how to roast... well, a roast. I know these are things that I used to eat all the time at home and when I lived alone, I ate well, it was good and I liked cooking. Now, I cook for 2 sometimes and I hate cooking. No, I hate planning meals. It seems like there are only so many combinations and I run out of ideas. Then I don't want cook. I want someone else to. D, my cohabitant, doesn't cook. D believes that tuna, cream of celery soup and toast make an edible meal. ew! D's family also believes that corn on the cob makes for an entire meal. D's idea of cooking is 'which place to order from today?' And to add to the misery, D's tastes are so different from mine.

I come from a family where my mother worked as a playschool teacher for a lot of years, so she was home for most of the day. We had home cooked meals and she always knew what to make. I look at the full freezer, the semi-full fridge and the pantry and think - what can I tolerate today? So I am slowly compiling some recipes that I like. And I thought I might share. Mind you, most of it is appetizers. I sometimes think I should have the book Cher had in Mermaids and make all meals out of appetizers. But then again, when I cook for myself, I usually cook either really well (like bbq'd steak, potatoes, sauteed onions and mushrooms) or like crap (corn dogs, chips and a pickle for the vegetable).

Today's recipe:

1- 250 ml of sour cream (fat free)
1-250 ml of cream cheese (spreadable in a tub for ease)
1-jar salsa
veggies to taste (shredded or dice small)
lots shredded cheese
nacho chips (I like restaurant rounds)

Mix the sour cream and cream cheese with an electric mixer. Spread onto pizza size dish. Spread salsa over sour cream and cream cheese mix. Cover with veggies (shredded baby carrots make a nice sweet taste). Cover with cheese. Keep cold until you serve with nacho chips.

Trust me, this makes a yummy treat. All my friends have liked it so far. In fact, the first time I made it, it went rather quickly and I almost missed out in having some.

Anyway, time to try to find some supper. The bbq steak is sounding good. I'll have to see if I have any propane left.
